I guess it was close to 5:30 am and dawn was upon us. You could notice the noise of waves crashing along the shoreline merely fifty metres from where I lay, comfortably in my bed. I recalled the commitment I’d made to myself the night before but my moderate hangover had me making excuses. So I slept a bit longer…
It was guilt that gradually helped me get up and dress in my bathers. Middle age and my propensity for a beer was evidently evident; mainly around the waist. Also I need to get rid of cellulite that is certainly beginning to show on my legs – but I digress. And so, even with the light banging in my head, I made my way, surf board in hand, down to the beach. Next an amazing thing happened.
I paddled my board out around 150 metres and paused in the calm waters just further than the break watching the first glimpse of the sun rising. I gazed to the left and after that to my right, there was no-one else about. My heart skipped a beat as my attention shifted to what may well be swimming below. Is it not strange how we are inclined to feel safe when there are others around; sort of like birds in a group or perhaps a herd of deer. And then, merely a metre to my right hand side, it appeared. There was a loud noise and it lifted above the waterline.
I virtually fainted! My heart was beating and my hair was standing on end. The rapid shot of adrenaline straight into my system increased the senses. After that I became aware of what it had been.
A gorgeous dolphin and her tiny infant lifted delicately from the water no more than a metre from where I sat and after that gradually re-entered the ocean and moved right under my surfboard. I watched as they continued their trip to wherever they were going. This left me feeling a massive relief that i would be safe but additionally amazement at the splendor of this scene. There is no way I could explain this to you in a way that properly conveys my experience. No amount of storytelling can communicate the experience. So I can only ask you to visualize what it would have been like.
Approximately two hours later on I went back to our beachside apartment and had breakfast and my normal serving of my best probiotic (to settle my stomach). Our holiday accommodation Cotton Tree spot is a retreat from the typical working day. It is also a place where you are able to enjoy the natural beauty of this popular Queensland location.
If you ever vacation to the beautiful Sunshine Coast of Queensland, look for for holiday accommodation Cotton Tree on the internet and you can expect to find plenty of quality holiday apartments. Should you get out of bed early enough one morning and wander onto the beach, you may be fortunate to see dolphins frolicking in the surf. Maybe you will see the same dolphins that gave me such a scare. Don’t miss the opportunity, you will not be sorry you did.
