Can Travel Insurance Perform In Case You Experience A Death In The Family?

The big question people want answered is whether or not travel insurance is going to consider a death in the family a reason to use trip cancellation.  It could be a sudden death, but even if someone has been ill or a cancer patient, there is really no way to be sure when someone is going to go.

That’s why travel insurance exists, to cover for the unexpected.  Travel insurance works the same way with other insurance.  Insurance has the sole purpose of being there for you just in case.  Every insurance company has clauses that point out what they will cover and what they won’t.  Just ask once you call the company.  Usually in the case that it is an immediate family member, that will work.  If you call the insurance company and tell them your sister-in-law’s mother died then you would probably know their answer to that.  The insurance company doesn’t really consider that as a hardship on you so therefore they probably wont cover it.  Be sure to consider this when you are shopping for cheap travel insurance, whether it is just travel health insurance or something like annual family travel insurance.

CSA Travel, states that their policy will cover you if you die, or a family member and even a traveling companion.  Be sure to ask when you are getting insurance quotes if they will cover your traveling companion since that may not be true for all companies.

Some companies will cover you if you die your immediate family members only, and they provide an accidental death policy that is in effect while you are traveling.  This one is another good one to inquire about.  This is a great policy to get besides your regular disability policy if you have one either with your employer, or one that is transferrable but is with a company they signed up with.  But, this policy probably does not provide you any coverage while you are traveling.
