As a blogger for Insurance School Florida we are glad to see that the BP Containment Cap has stopped the flow of oil into the Gulf for now . The public is skeptical that this is a permanent fix . There have been many near successes that turned to failure. It’s good to see the live feeds where everything is calm. So will the insurance claims start to slow down? We are probably looking at several years of more claims even if the leak stops for good.

The cleanup is now a large concern. Gulf businesses are suffering . The tourist industry, sport fisherman, and commercial fisherman are all hurting. How soon will things get back to normal? In Alaska where the Exxon Valdez disaster happened decades ago, all you have to do is take a shovel and dig six inches and you’ll see black crude . This stuff will be around forever and affect the eco-system.

I hope to see new regulations for safety . Heck, the failure here was not even following the lax rules that did exist. On The Daily Show, they revealed that the emergency plans for a spill by different oil companies were identical. In fact some just copied and pasted the text to their website. So while the other oil conglomerates claim they would have done a better job than BP , it looks like they’d have done the same thing.
This could end up being the biggest insurance claim payout in history. We’ll see .
