Keeping Artificial Trees Spic and Span

More and more people are buying artificial trees and plants as they become more and more realistic. In the past they were easily distinguishable from the real thing and were often flimsy. Today they are so realistic that people sometimes have to touch them to distinguish them from the real thing.

Many households where both adults work opt for artificial trees and plants rather than real ones because they simply don’t have the time to give the trees the attention they need to stay alive and well preened. Similarly, many office buildings opt for them in order to enjoy the brightness that plants and trees bring to a room without needing to feed, water and trim them. When artificial trees are so popular because they require so little maintenance, it seems strange to talk about their care.

Even though artificial trees are easy enough for anyone to care for, they still require some maintenance in the form of ongoing cleaning. Most are made from silk, meaning that they will appear to wilt when covered in dust. Dust will also detract from their striking green appearance.

When cleaning artificial trees, owners must be gentle. But luckily their cleaning is not specialist and can therefore be included as part of regular household cleaning. Each week they must simply be lightly dusted with a feather duster to remove dust and cobwebs. Every fortnight or so, a more thorough dust can be completed, with any stubborn patches of dirt gently washed with a damp cloth.

Whilst they aren’t alive, care will still be needed to make artificial trees and plants last as long as possible. For this reason you might wish to carry out a more thorough clean every few months with a specialised cleaning product. To avoid damage to the silk leaves, special products should be used. The shop or website from which you bought the tree or plant will normally recommend a product.
